 2026

January - Wassail Night was organised jointly with the Orchard Committe, Heritage Centre and the Butchers Arms pub. A fantastic evening and very well attended throughout. The traditional Wassail customs were performed in the community orchard, after which  everyone was welcomed into the "Butchers". The heritage committee staged an exhibition in the pub of photographs and memorabilia of past wassails. We are extremely thankful to Nick, Tina and Frank for being involved and supporting the Wassail and wish them every success in running the pub.

The Burns Night Quiz was very well attended and followed the tradition of toasting the haggis and honouring the Scottish bard. The  quiz was hotly contested and resulted in a well deserved win for the combined team of "the Posties" and "Footlands".

The Heritage Centre has confirmed the dates for the first two talks for 2026; full details on the heritage page.

Weekly croquet, table tennis, dance and yoga classes are held at the Rec with badminton by arrangement.

The Rec bookstore continues to be very popular opening to coincide with the heritage centre on Tuesday afternoon from 2.30 - 4.30pm and again on Saturday morning from 10.30am - 12 noon.

We have now over 2000 books modestly priced at 50p each or 3 for a £1, there is something to suit all tastes and genres.

Pop Up Cafe

The cafe has been a regular feature of village life for since 2023 and is held every Thursday afternoon from 2pm - 3.30pm in the Long Hall at the Recreation Centre.  Tea, coffee and homemade cakes are offer in a friendly environment. The cafe provides a warm safe space for everyone to meet up and chat as well as an opportunity to purchase new reading material from the bookstall.

Rec Facilities

There are two halls available, namely a sports hall and a function room known as the Long Hall, modern kitchen with 70 place settings, toilet facilities and refurbished changing rooms and showers for home and away teams.

Those using the Carhampton Recreation Centre can enjoy a wide range of sports both indoors and out, as well as community events, quizes, musical evenings, markets, table top sales, and barn dances. The committee aims to organise several fund raising events throughout the year and after overheads have been paid any residue is used to improve and upgrade the facilities at the Rec Centre.

Rec Refurbishment - Update

The committee is continually looking at ways to improve our facilities, during 2026 we are hoping to upgrade the toilets, which are in desperate need of modernising. The committee is also aware that the MUGA surface needs attention, but this is a costly item and will require outside grant funding, consequently we are exploring the options available and hopefully will be able to report some progress later in the year. In conjuction with our own fundraising the management committee are continually looking at grants and funding available.
